Volvo Aero develop and produce components for aircraft and rocket engines with a high technology content.


Volvo Aero produce components for 90% of all large commercial aircraft. Our product specialisation include cases and structures for fans, compressors, and turbines. Volvo Aero have 3200 employees, with main location in Trollhättan, Sweden and a turnover of 820 M€ (2007).

VOLVO AERO AND DREAM

Innovative engine systems

The involvement in DREAM for Volvo Aero will mainly be in the “Innovative engine systems” subproject, SP4. One part of the work effort is highlighting low noise concepts for the cold fan outlet guide vanes. The other part of the work concerns concepts for the hot mid frame with expanded structural and aerodynamic functions. Challenges to be worked on include suitable material coatings and the aerodynamic design.  

Light-weight technologies

Volvo Aero aim to deliver environmentally optimized components for future aircraft. A key focus is to continue the development of light-weight technologies that is the trademark of Volvo Aero. The light-weight technologies and the manufacturing experience are proposed to be implemented in innovative engine system by suitable manufacturing technologies, new processes and aerodynamic technology development.

New concepts to reduce environmental impacts

DREAM will allow Volvo Aero to develop and realize concepts for engine components that are offering reduced environmental impact and are well suited for the next generation aircraft.
