SP3 will develop a Direct Drive Open Rotor. The partners will investigate the critical components of the concepts.

WP3.2 Open rotor propfan design

WP3.2 will perform Open Rotor propeller blades detailed design and evaluation, and in particular:

  • Is providing the definition of mock blades for aero and acoustic tests
  • Is studying installation effects and design a mock pylon for installed tests
  • Is studying aero-acoustic advanced concepts for open rotor
  • Will perform aero-acoustic and mechanical assessment
  • Is evaluating the impact of smart blade concepts on blade design and performances

WP3.3 Contra-Rotating Low Pressure Turbine

AVIO, Polito, Progesa, Unifi, SUT, Snecma

The main target of WP3.3 is to identify and develop a design for a contra-rotating turbine, and to investigate the new components which are introduced in the contra-rotating shaft line:

  • Contra-Rotating DRUM

The CR drum containment capabilities is assessed with dedicated test campaign. A new material for the Drum, based on fibres winded is assessed.

  • Contra-Rotating Strut,

which transfers the load from the Drum to the Contra-rotating Shaft

  • Contra-Rotating Blades

The effect of compression tensile status of vibratory capabilities of the blades is studied through a dedicated engineering test on a rotating drum with simplified blades.
