Rolls-Royce Deutschland is the only fully certified German engine manufacturer with complete systems capability for the design, production and after-sales support of modern civil and military aero engines. RRD is the centre of excellence for 2-shaft engines and high pressure compressors in the Rolls-Royce group.

RRD is responsible for the BR710, BR715, BR725, Tay 611-8c engines and the RR share in the V2500, TP400-D6 and RTM322 engine programmes.
RRD is also responsible for the sustainable engineering of the Tay, Spey and Dart engines.

In 2008

  • RDD's revenue was :1.1 billion EUR
  • The order book stood at over 3.9 billion EUR
  • More than 3,000 employees
  • delivered 478 engines

RRD leads the development of innovative technologies in SP4 – WP4.2, aiming at the reduction of vibrations and noise generated by propellers and structures. The vibration behaviour of the engine is dependent upon its regime, therefore an active damping technology offers operating advantages as the damping can be optimised over the flight cycle. RRD workshare in DREAM is split between 3 of the 4 tasks of WP4.2:

  • Task 4.2.1 Active damping of composite propellers to explore and optimise the design of composite propeller blades fitted with integrated damping systems.
  • Task 4.2.2 Active vibration damping of engine rotors to extend current piezo actuator range of application to high temperature and high load regimes for jet engines
  • Task 4.2.3 Qualified Elastomer Rings for Engine Rotor Damping to demonstrate the rotordynamic behaviour and the mechanical feasibility of qualified elastomer rings for engine rotor damping
  • As the only fully certified German engine manufacturer with complete systems capability, RRD has a direct route to market to exploit the technologies developed in DREAM in the next generation of gas turbines.
