ONERA is a multidisciplinary scientific and technical establishment with an industrial and commercial status (PUC), and supervised by the French Ministry of Defence. ONERA conducts and orients research programs in the field of aeronautics and space, targeting on industrial applications.

ONERA carries out fundamental and applied researches on theoretical and experimental levels and contributes to the development of civil and military programs. Four main scientific groups are organized in ONERA: Fluid Mechanics and Energetic, Physics, Material and Structure and Information processing and system.

ONERA was part of many European projects and is presently active in several IPs (Newac, Vital, Friendcopter, Nicetrip) or Streps (Tatef2, Aida, Aim, GoAhead).

ONERA main involvement in DREAM lies in SP3, with a large part of the activities devoted to the design of innovative counter-rotating propellers aiming at reaching a good propulsive efficiency with reduced noise emission. Several aero-acoustic computational chains already available at ONERA will be improved and applied to reach these challenging objectives. ONERA also contributes to the aero-elastic analysis of the designed propellers.
In addition, ONERA is involved in the development of an acoustic model for compressors in SP1, and in testing the ignition with alternative fuels on the MERCATO altitude test rig in SP5.

The specialists from different ONERA departments will bring their expertise to the multi-disciplinary DREAM project, especially in the fields of aerodynamics, acoustics and aero-elasticity. The experience gained by ONERA on counter-rotating propellers in the past will be very useful for the DREAM consortium.

ONERA is highly interested in all experimental data that will come out from the wind-tunnel tests of open rotors that will be done during the project, and also for the improvement of our understanding of physics and modelling capabilities.
