MAGNA STEYR Space Technology is organised as a Business Unit directly under the MAGNA STEYR Fahrzeugtechnik Management Board and consists of 4 Business Sections:

SPACE - AERONAUTICS - AUTOMOTIVE - R & D

Based on well established processes derived from 20 years experience in space  technology projects MAGNA STEYR provides the following range of activities:
  • Development (Materials, Design, Analysis, Simulation etc.) of relevant Assemblies, Subsystems and Systems.
  • Qualification of developed products as specified and required on the relevant assembly- up to systems level.
  • Prototype-, First Article- and Series Production of Flight Hardware incl. necessary jigs and tools.
  • Documentation and certification of quality according to applicable requirements.
Manufacturing Technologies:
  • TIG and Plasma Welding of stainless steel, aluminium, titanium and similar metals.
  • Tube bending and forming for piping as designed.
  • Sheet Metal forming, turning, milling, drilling etc. of components in house or at various Partners.
  • Cleaning of tubes and subassys incl. handling and assembling in clean environment.
  • Quality control: NDI (radiographic-, dye penetration- and ultrasonic testing), geometric verification, endoscopic inspection, pressure and leakage testing and cleanliness verification etc.

MAGNA STEYR Space Technology is developing as a strategic partner to MTU in development and production of Active Clearance Control (ACC) Subsystems for Low Pressure Turbines. Classic ACC design for the GP 7200 Engine is under production at MAGNA, production of ACC for V2500 Engine is in negotiations.

Development and production of Advanced ACC Systems are planned to be part of the strategic partnership between MAGNA and MTU.

The development and manufacture of such an Advanced ACC on the basis of GP 7200 specification for the test set-up of the “closed loop ACC” will put MAGNA in the position to offer this technology also for later development programs for next generation engines.

Within DREAM a new concept for ACC Systems is planned to be realized including manufacturing and testing, which shall show the basic verification of functional requirements.

For such a system, which is planned to bring to a series-production readiness for future engine concepts, this basic validation is an important milestone.

MAGNA Space Technology will perform all necessary design, analysis and simulation activities as well as test set-up manufacture for one complete system for performance of tests within the specified work-packages.
