DowtyDowty Propellers is part of GE’s Aviation Business, located in Gloucestershire, UK. Dowty has historically focused on the design, development, manufacture and in-service support of all-composite bladed modern technology propeller systems, primarily for the regional turboprop and large military transport markets. Dowty has two subsidiary sites located in Europe & North America and a GE Aviation Customer Service Centre in Singapore undertaking propeller system aftermarket services, offering customers a comprehensive range of fully integrated services from initial design concept, right through to customer services. Key programs include;

  • Lockheed Martin C-130J
  • Alenia C-27J
  • Bombardier Q400 Dash 8
  • ShinMaywa US-1A Kai

SP2 R-R Geared Pusher Open Rotor

  • WP 2.2– Aero-acoustic Uninstalled - 22pm
  • Aero-acoustic and mechanical design & manufacture of rotor blades for R-R Rig 145 1/6th scale contra-rotating open rotor wind tunnel model
  • Refinement of Dowty contra-rotation performance and acoustic codes from results of Rig 145 low-speed & high-speed wind tunnel test results

SP3 SNECMA Direct-Drive Pusher Open Rotor

  • WP 3.1 Architecture and specifications – 11pm
  • Requirements/assessment of blade pitch-change mechanisms (PCM) for contra-rotating direct-drive open rotors
  • WP 3.2 – Open Rotor Design - 15pm + ARA subcontract 18pm
  • Development of classical flutter prediction code for contra-rotating open rotor &application to SNECMA/TsAGI wind-tunnel test rig model blades
  • Development of acoustic codes for contra-rotating open rotor & correlation with final SNECMA/TsAGI wind-tunnel rig test results
  • Concept studies and aero-acoustic design for advanced concept blades for final version of SNECMA/TsAGI wind-tunnel test rig.

Dowty aims to be a rotor blade and PCM design and manufacturing partner in an eventual open-rotor engine system, and DREAM will help develop tools and build partnerships.
