Cenaero

Cenaero is a private applied research centre, focusing on the development of multidisciplinary Simulation Technologies for Aeronautics. Equipped with significant High Performance Computing resources, Cenaero provides industries with state-of-the-art solutions and serves its partners and clients with highest commitment. Cenaero also hosts a large HPC (High Performance Computing) infrastructure with a supercomputer which counts more than 2000 CPU units and ranked 447 in the Top500 list issued in June 2008.

Cenaero is currently involved in more or less 20 running FP6 and FP7 projects and is the coordinator of some them. Since March 2007, Cenaero is an official R&D partner of the SAFRAN group for the development of aerodynamic and aero-thermal simulation solutions.

Cenaero offers Advanced consulting services in several fields:

Process Modelling

Manufacturing processes modeling (Reduce trial and errors cycle to process set-up, prediction of part distortions, residual stresses, materials defects after machining, welding, heat treatments, hot forming, explosive forming, etc.)

Structural integrity analysis (fracture mechanics and damage tolerant analyses, prediction of 3D crack paths with major topology changes, prediction of the number of cycles to failure for parts with propagating cracks)
Materials Composite structure design and optimization (computation of cost-mass-performance trade-off curves in the concurrent design phase, multi-scale modeling of damage and failure, design and analysis of adhesively bonded structures, etc.)
Fluid Mechanics Aerodynamics, aero-acoustics and fluid structure interaction (RANS, LES and RANS/LES approaches for turbulent flows simulations, massively parallel computations for large scale industrial problems, unstructured mesh generation around complex geometries, etc.)
Multi-disciplinary optimsation Turbomachinery aerodynamics and design optimization (Multi-disciplinary shape optimization for fan, compressor and turbine components, CAD model parameterization, technological effects integration in the design loop, etc.)
High Performance Computing (Proven experience in reliable and efficient operation of world-class supercomputers, expertise in HPC solutions definition suited for CAE applications, etc.)

Project management (Collaborative projects set-up and support, R&D management consultancy, technical competitive positioning analysis, etc.)

Besides these consultancy activities, Cenaero also proposes several Software products:

Morfeo - A new generation manufacturing simulation software: the reference in simulation of welding, machining processes and fracture mechanics for large size components and within a reasonable computational time.

Minamo - A multi-disciplinary multi-objective optimization platform which can be connected to any computational tools and able to efficiently treat problems using a large number of continuous and discrete variables with complex constraints.
Argo - A massively parallel unstructured CFD solver for RANS, URANS, LES and DES modeling of large scale compressible and incompressible flow problems, including FSI and aeroacoustics capabilities.
Hea-P - A leading edge software dedicated to the thermo-hydraulic modeling of grooved heat pipes.

Description of Cenaero’s involvement in DREAM

On one hand, Cenaero will work on the design optimization of a contra-rotating open rotor. This aerodynamic optimization will target improved efficiency and noise reduction at the same time. On the other hand, Cenaero will also use its expertise in CFD and multi-disciplinary optimization to improve aerodynamic efficiency and stability of highly loaded LP compressors for aircraft engines.

Why are you taking part in DREAM?

In the context of our R&D partnership with SAFRAN group members, it is our mission to sustain innovation in the field of turbomachinery CFD and component design optimization. Our support helps them to benefit from top-level expertise and comforts the market positioning of important European aeronautical companies.

How will you benefit from DREAM?

The expertise gained throughout the project is crucial for Cenaero, as turbomachinery applications are one of the key areas for services to industry. Furthermore, Cenaero will gain significant know-how in the design of open rotors, which seems a promising technological development for European companies. The use of our software within the project will also be beneficial for their quality and adaptation to market needs.
